Between Water and Distance is an original large blue and green abstract seascape diptych by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026.

The artwork consists of two 85 × 120 cm acrylic paintings on canvas, creating an impressive composition of approximately 170 × 120 cm when displayed together.

While creating this diptych, I imagined two different states of the same coastal landscape. One canvas opens into softer air and translucent water, while the other moves toward deeper, more dramatic tones. I wanted the space between the paintings to become part of the composition—a visual distance where water, sky, and land seem to continue beyond the edges of each canvas.

Broad horizontal layers suggest distant shores, water, and reflections, while expressive textured passages dissolve the landscape into abstraction. The two paintings are connected through color and movement rather than perfect symmetry, allowing each panel to work individually while creating a much stronger visual experience as a pair.

I developed the surfaces with professional acrylic paints using palette knives, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques, layering, dripping, and expressive impasto applications. Dense tactile areas contrast with softer atmospheric passages, creating depth and subtle changes in the surface as natural light moves across the paintings.

The sophisticated palette combines soft aqua, muted turquoise, sea green, sage green, blue-grey, smoky grey, deep navy, charcoal, black, warm ivory, cream, beige, taupe, mocha, espresso brown, white, and earthy ochre accents. There is no gold or metallic paint in the artwork; the warmer accents are natural ochre and brown tones.

With its substantial scale and vertical two-panel composition, Between Water and Distance creates a striking focal point for a large living room, dining room, bedroom, office, or contemporary open-plan interior. The combination of blue-green coastal tones and sophisticated neutrals works beautifully with Modern, Contemporary, Coastal, Organic Modern, Japandi, Scandinavian, and neutral interiors.

Both canvases are unique, one-of-a-kind original paintings, signed on the front and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Please note: The paintings are sold unstretched and shipped rolled together in a protective tube for safer and more economical international delivery. After arrival, the canvases can be stretched onto wooden stretcher bars by a local framing professional.
