Measuring 130 × 100 cm, this one-of-a-kind acrylic artwork combines soft coastal blues, warm neutral tones, and expressive textures inspired by water, open sky, and distant landscapes.
While creating this painting, I wanted to capture the feeling of standing near the water when the landscape suddenly seems to expand. The sky feels higher, the distance opens, and reflections begin to blur the boundaries between sea and land. Rather than depicting a particular coastline, I followed the memory of that sensation—the freedom, movement, and changing atmosphere of an open coastal landscape.
Broad horizontal layers suggest water, distant shores, and reflections, while more expressive textured passages bring movement to the sky. The surface was built with professional acrylic paints using palette knives, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques, layering, and impasto applications.
The sophisticated palette combines soft turquoise, aqua blue, powder blue, blue-grey, deep navy, charcoal, warm ivory, cream, sand, beige, taupe, mocha brown, espresso brown, and white. There is no gold or metallic paint in this artwork; the warm accents are natural earthy brown tones.
With its generous 130 × 100 cm format, Where the Water Opens creates a strong focal point without overwhelming an interior.
