Blue Structural Passage is an original blue and beige abstract diptych by contemporary artist Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026.
The artwork consists of two 70 × 90 cm acrylic paintings on canvas, stretched on wooden stretcher bars and ready to hang. Displayed together, the two panels form a large composition approximately 140 × 90 cm, excluding the space between them. I created this diptych around the idea of space opening through structure.
I wanted the blue areas to feel almost like passages of light moving through an imagined architectural environment. There is no specific building or landscape here—instead, the composition is constructed from color, vertical forms, intersections and richly layered surfaces.
The two paintings were developed together. They share the same visual language without mirroring one another, allowing the eye to move naturally from one canvas to the other. The palette combines powder blue, soft cornflower blue, muted denim blue and blue-grey with sophisticated neutral tones of ivory, off-white, warm beige, greige, taupe and stone grey.
Deeper passages of charcoal black, espresso brown, dark umber and smoky grey create strong structural anchors. These darker elements give the composition weight, while the luminous blue and neutral areas create openness and a sense of spatial depth. I particularly like the relationship between blue and brown in this diptych. The earthy colors feel grounded and architectural, while the blues appear to move through the composition like light, air or water.
I created the paintings with professional acrylic paints using palette knives and brushes, combining layering, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques and expressive gestural mark-making.
Some areas were repeatedly painted, partially removed and rebuilt. Earlier layers remain visible through irregular edges, scraped passages and subtle changes in opacity, giving the surface a sense of history.
Strong vertical elements are interrupted by horizontal passages that visually connect the two canvases. At certain points, the composition feels geometric and precise; elsewhere, the structure dissolves into texture and spontaneous painterly marks.
From a distance, Blue Structural Passage appears calm, balanced and architectural. Viewed closely, the paintings reveal broken edges, overlapping colors, scraped surfaces and traces of previous layers.
This contrast is central to my work. I am interested in the relationship between structure and movement, geometry and intuition, constructed space and spontaneous gesture.
For me, the blue areas represent openness. They may suggest light, water, sky or simply color moving through space. I intentionally leave this interpretation unresolved so that each viewer can develop a personal connection with the work.
The physical space between the canvases also becomes part of the composition—a visual pause separating the two paintings while allowing their colors, lines and rhythms to remain connected.

The combination of blue, beige, ivory, taupe, grey, brown and charcoal makes this large abstract diptych particularly suited to contemporary, minimalist and neutral interiors. It can become a sophisticated focal point above a sofa, console, bed or in a modern office or open-plan living space.
