Where Silence Divides the Sea is an original contemporary abstract diptych created in 2026. Composed of two original acrylic paintings, this work explores the quiet relationship between sky, water, and light through layered textures, atmospheric colour, and an expansive panoramic composition.
While painting this diptych, I imagined standing on a remote shoreline where the landscape stretches endlessly in both directions. Clouds slowly part, sunlight reaches the water, and reflections merge with the distant horizon until the boundaries between sea and sky almost disappear. Rather than painting a specific coastline, I wanted to capture the emotional experience of openness, silence, and the restorative calm found in nature.
Each canvas is complete as an individual work, yet together they create a continuous visual journey. The horizon flows naturally from one painting to the next, expanding the sense of space and inviting the viewer to experience the landscape as a single, uninterrupted moment.
The diptych was created using multiple layers of professional acrylic paint applied with palette knives, brushes, scraping techniques, and expressive textural mark-making. Rich textures interact beautifully with natural light, revealing subtle variations in colour and depth throughout the day. Every layer contributes to the painting's quiet movement and tactile presence.
A refined palette of ivory white, soft blue, smoky grey, warm beige, charcoal black, earthy brown, and subtle ochre creates a timeless contemporary atmosphere. Cool blue reflections evoke calm water and open skies, while warm neutral tones add balance, depth, and architectural elegance.
