Blue Architecture of Motion is an original large blue abstract painting by contemporary artist Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026.
Measuring 100 × 140 cm, this horizontal acrylic painting on canvas combines geometric structure, layered textures and atmospheric shades of blue in a composition inspired by architecture, water, glass and reflection.
I created this painting around the idea that movement can exist even within the most structured space.
The composition began with a system of horizontal and vertical divisions. As I continued working, these boundaries gradually became less certain. Blue fields moved across them, darker forms appeared beneath translucent layers, and expressive passages of white began to interrupt the geometry. What started as structure slowly transformed into movement.
The palette is dominated by dusty blue, muted turquoise, steel blue, blue-grey, pale aqua and deep teal, balanced by luminous areas of soft white, ivory, pearl grey, cool greige and pale beige.
Deeper passages of charcoal, graphite grey, blue-black, smoky brown and dark umber create depth beneath the lighter layers. Subtle touches of earthy brown and taupe introduce warmth while preserving the painting's predominantly cool atmosphere.
I wanted the different shades of blue to behave almost like different materials. Some appear transparent and atmospheric, while others feel denser and more architectural. Their overlapping layers create the impression of looking both at a surface and through it. I developed the painting gradually using professional acrylic paints, palette knives and brushes, combining layering, glazing, scraping, dragging, dry-brush techniques, dripping and expressive gestural mark-making.
Some areas were repeatedly painted, partially removed and rebuilt. Earlier colors remain visible beneath translucent passages and scraped surfaces, creating a sense of depth and preserving traces of the creative process.
A framework of rectangular planes, vertical divisions and horizontal lines gives the composition its architectural character. I deliberately interrupted this order with irregular textures and spontaneous marks.
Near the center, a concentrated passage of white and pale neutral paint breaks through the surrounding geometry. For me, this became the energetic core of the painting—a point where controlled structure seems to fracture and release movement.
From a distance, Blue Architecture of Motion appears balanced and architectural. Viewed closely, the surface reveals a much more complex world of drips, scratches, overlapping colors, translucent layers and broken edges. I am fascinated by the way architecture, water, glass and reflections can visually transform one another. Straight lines can become fluid when reflected in water. A window can simultaneously reveal a surface, a reflection and the space beyond it. I wanted this painting to exist within that ambiguity.
It does not represent a specific building, city or landscape. Instead, it creates an imagined space where geometric abstraction, architectural abstraction and atmospheric painting meet.
The large 100 × 140 cm horizontal format gives the artwork a strong panoramic presence. Its combination of blue, turquoise, white, grey and subtle earthy neutrals makes it a distinctive statement piece for contemporary, minimalist and modern interiors.
