Between Light and Form is an original contemporary abstract painting by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026.

Measuring 80 × 100 cm, this textured neutral abstract painting combines soft beige, ivory, white, blue-grey, taupe and charcoal black in an atmospheric composition inspired by architecture, light and reflection.
I created this painting around the idea that even the simplest forms can hold an extraordinary sense of space.

I wanted to explore the moment when light transforms a solid surface, softening its boundaries and allowing architecture and atmosphere to become almost indistinguishable.
The composition began with delicate layers of warm ivory, soft white, pale cream and misty blue-grey. Gradually, I introduced sand beige, warm taupe, stone grey and muted earthy brown, creating a subtle balance between warm and cool neutral colors.

To bring depth and visual contrast, I added expressive passages of charcoal black, graphite grey, smoky blue-black and deep espresso brown.
A strong horizontal line crosses the composition, intersecting with darker vertical forms. Together, these elements create an architectural structure that seems to emerge from the surrounding light.

For me, this intersection became the emotional center of the painting.
It may suggest a distant shoreline, a reflection on water, an architectural fragment or an opening into an imagined space. I deliberately avoided defining the subject too precisely, allowing the viewer to discover their own interpretation.

I developed the surface using professional acrylic paints, palette knives and brushes, combining layering, glazing, scraping, dragging, dry-brush techniques and expressive mark-making.

Some areas were repeatedly painted and partially removed, revealing earlier colors beneath the final layers. The result is a richly textured surface where delicate transitions of white, beige and grey meet rougher passages of dark paint.
The contrast between smooth atmospheric areas and irregular architectural marks creates a sense of depth and movement.

I am particularly interested in the relationship between structure and intuition. Geometric forms provide a sense of order, while spontaneous gestures introduce unpredictability and emotion.
In Between Light and Form, I wanted these two approaches to coexist naturally.
The painting does not represent a particular landscape or building. Instead, it moves between geometric abstraction, architectural abstract art and atmospheric abstract landscape painting.

From a distance, the composition appears calm and balanced. Viewed closely, the canvas reveals subtle color variations, layered textures, scraped surfaces and expressive details that change with the surrounding light.
The sophisticated palette of beige, white, ivory, grey, soft blue, charcoal and brown makes this original abstract artwork particularly suitable for contemporary, minimalist, Scandinavian and Japandi interiors.

Its 80 × 100 cm vertical format creates an elegant focal point above a console, in a living room, bedroom, office or carefully curated modern space.
For me, this painting is about the beauty of what cannot be fully defined—the space between something familiar and something imagined, between solid structure and changing light.

I hope Between Light and Form brings its future owner not only a distinctive contemporary artwork, but also a sense of openness, depth and quiet contemplation.
