Currents Through Structure is an original large blue and brown abstract diptych by contemporary artist Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026.

The artwork consists of two 100 × 140 cm acrylic paintings on canvas, forming an impressive two-panel composition approximately 200 × 140 cm, excluding the space between the canvases.

I created this diptych around the idea that movement rarely follows the boundaries we create for it.

We build structures, divide spaces and establish lines, yet water, light and time continuously pass through them, changing their appearance. I wanted these two paintings to capture this tension between what feels permanent and constructed and what remains fluid and constantly changing.

The two canvases have deliberately different personalities.

The left panel is cooler and more atmospheric. Layers of dusty blue, muted turquoise, steel blue, blue-grey and deep teal intersect with soft white, ivory, pale grey and cool greige. Rectangular forms, overlapping planes and linear elements can suggest fragments of windows, reflections, façades or architectural plans.

The right panel introduces a warmer, more grounded counterpoint. Warm beige, taupe, sand, earthy brown, burnt umber and espresso meet areas of pale aqua, icy blue, soft white and blue-grey. Strong dark vertical forms create an architectural axis, while lighter textured passages appear to move across and through it.

Although the two paintings are not symmetrical, recurring blues, whites, dark lines and intersecting forms create a continuous visual dialogue between them.

I developed both canvases gradually with professional acrylic paints using palette knives and brushes, combining layering, glazing, scraping, dragging, dry-brush techniques and expressive gestural mark-making.

Some areas were repeatedly painted, partially removed and reconstructed. Earlier colors remain visible through translucent layers, scraped passages and irregular edges, giving the surfaces depth and allowing the history of the painting process to remain visible.
In certain areas, the paint forms clearly defined geometric planes. Elsewhere, those structures dissolve into drips, broken textures, scraped marks and spontaneous gestures.
This relationship between geometry and gesture, structure and movement is central to the work.

From a distance, Currents Through Structure feels architectural and composed. Viewed closely, the surfaces become increasingly dynamic as colors overlap, boundaries disappear and individual marks interrupt the underlying order.
For me, the diptych exists somewhere between geometric abstraction, architectural abstraction and abstract landscape.

I did not intend to represent a specific city, building or coastline. Instead, I wanted to create an imagined environment where the viewer might recognize fragments of personal experience: water beside architecture, reflections on glass, changing daylight across a façade or a landscape perceived through layers of constructed space.
The physical gap between the two canvases is also part of the artwork. It creates a pause between two contrasting visual states while allowing their colors, lines and rhythms to remain connected.

For me, Currents Through Structure is ultimately about permanence and change. Structures may appear solid, but everything around them—and eventually within them—is transformed by movement, light and time.

Each painting measures 100 × 140 cm. Displayed vertically side by side, the complete diptych measures approximately 200 × 140 cm, excluding the gap.
Its monumental scale makes it a powerful statement artwork for a large contemporary interior, while the combination of blue, turquoise, white, beige, taupe, brown, charcoal and deep teal creates a sophisticated balance between cool and warm tones.

Currents Through Structure is a one-of-a-kind original abstract diptych, painted entirely by hand in 2026. Both paintings are signed on the front and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The canvases are sold unstretched and unframed and will be carefully shipped rolled in a protective tube for safe international delivery. They can be professionally stretched onto wooden stretcher bars after arrival.
