Between Structure and Tide is an original large blue abstract diptych by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026 as part of the Oceanic Geometry series.
The artwork consists of two 140 × 80 cm acrylic paintings on canvas, combining architectural geometry with the fluidity, reflections, and atmospheric colors of water.
The idea behind my Oceanic Geometry series grew from a contrast that fascinates me: architecture is created through structure, boundaries, and proportion, while water is constantly moving and changing its shape. In this diptych, I wanted these two visual languages to meet.
I built the composition through strong vertical and horizontal divisions, fragmented planes, and dark linear elements. Against this architectural framework, layers of pale blue, powder blue, blue-grey, white, ivory, beige, taupe, and stone grey appear like water, mist, or reflected sky. Deeper charcoal, black, espresso brown, and burnt umber create contrast and give the composition its structural strength, while restrained ochre accents introduce warmth.
The paintings were created with professional acrylic paints using palette knives, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques, layering, dripping, and gestural linear marks. Dense textured areas alternate with softer translucent passages, while scratches, exposed layers, and spontaneous lines give the surfaces a sense of both construction and movement.
I deliberately kept the imagery between geometric abstraction, architectural abstraction, and abstract landscape. A vertical form might suggest part of a building, a shadow, or a reflection in water. Horizontal passages can become an architectural plane, a distant shoreline, or the surface of the sea. I prefer to leave these interpretations open.
The two panels were conceived as one composition rather than two separate paintings. Lines, colors, and shapes visually continue from one canvas to the other, while the space between them becomes part of the artwork.
For me, Between Structure and Tide is about the relationship between what we build and what cannot be contained—between permanence and movement, architecture and nature, geometry and water.
Each canvas measures 140 × 80 cm. Displayed side by side, the diptych creates an impressive composition approximately 160 × 140 cm, excluding the space between the panels. Its large scale and restrained blue, beige, grey, brown, black, and white palette make it particularly suited to spacious contemporary interiors, modern living rooms, offices, entrance halls, and architectural spaces.
This is a unique, one-of-a-kind original artwork from the Oceanic Geometry series and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Please note: Both paintings are sold unstretched and shipped rolled together in a protective tube for safe international delivery. After arrival, the canvases can be stretched onto wooden stretcher bars by a local framing professional.
