Axis of Still Waters is a contemporary abstract painting that explores the relationship between structure, reflection, and stillness. Created in 2026, this work combines geometric forms, layered textures, and a refined neutral palette to create a composition that feels both grounded and expansive.

While creating this painting, I was inspired by the invisible connections that exist within natural and architectural spaces. Intersecting forms, contrasting tonal fields, and expressive textures come together around a central focal point, creating a visual rhythm that suggests reflection, depth, and quiet strength.

The painting was built through multiple layers of acrylic paint using palette knives, brushes, scraping techniques, and spontaneous gestural marks. Shades of ivory white, soft gray, taupe, charcoal black, deep blue-black, and warm ochre create a sophisticated interplay of light and contrast. The darker passages provide structure and visual weight, while lighter areas introduce openness and luminosity. Subtle ochre accents add warmth and organic energy throughout the composition.

The richly textured surface responds beautifully to changing natural light, revealing delicate details, layered marks, and tonal variations throughout the day. From a distance, the painting appears calm and architectural; viewed up close, it reveals a complex landscape of textures and painterly gestures.
